By TwoCircles.net news desk,

Patna: Popular Front of India (PFI) which has been active in social works for years in South India now making it presence as national level has announced a National Public Health Campaign.

The campaign which is scheduled to be held from 1 to 15 November 2009 aims to create public awareness about the importance of physical and health care and also people's role in keeping the environment clean, pollution free and hygienic.

Talking to TwoCircles.net Mr. K.P. Mohammad Shareef, general secretary of PFI said that campaign will be organized in 8 states -Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Goa. During these fifteen days various campaign steps will be carried out.

The programs will include classes and demonstrations on environmental protection, disease prevention, yoga, physical exercises and right food habits. Sports and games events, mass cleaning of public places, cultural programs like documentary shows and street plays are also planned.

The campaign would be held with cooperation of local education and health department officers will further strengthen the government level public health efforts. A wall poster, hand bill and booklet on Exercises and Health prepared by Popular Front Headquarters will be circulated in different languages like English, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam etc. Interestingly enough, women will not be part of the campaign, informed Shareef.

Asked about the relation between PFI and SDPI, a newly launched political party, Mohammad Shareef said: "Some prominent members of PFI are among those who launched the SDPI. But it does not mean that PFI became SDPI. SDPI is a political party while PFI is a social organization which has been working for the welfare of the people and this campaign is also the part of social activities of FPI"

"PFI will continue working for the welfare of society and humanity as social organization and has nothing to do with politics" he added.

The decision about the health campaign was taken at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of Popular Front held at New Delhi.

The NEC meeting also decided to observe Dec 6, the anniversary day of Babri Masjid demolition as Anti-Fascist Day. This nation-wide campaign will focus on the follow up action regarding the findings of Liberhan's Commission which probed the Babri Masjid demolition.
