Popular Front of India welcomes the decision by the Honourable Supreme Court to uphold the reservations in Andhra Pradesh after being withdrawn by the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.

 

This has been the firm belief at Popular India that reservations should be provided after identifying a backward group and not on the basis of religion. Similarly it cannot be denied to anybody on the basis of religion.

 

This interim verdict from the Supreme Court at a time when the Central Government is discussing implementation of the Ranganath Mishra Commission recommendations, and in continuity to the 2 month long National Campaign for Muslim Reservation in the months of February and March 2010.

 

We hail this decision and welcome it as the first light in the hope of state backed assistance to minorities to develop them and bring them back into the mainstream.
