Kochi: The Social Democratic Party of India will hold its first national delegates’ convention on October 18 in New Delhi. The party will also release its manifesto at the convention. Party president E Aboobaker held a press conference in Bangalore yesterday to announce the convention.
The party was formed to realize a social order and political system based on the Constitutional ideals of justice, equality, liberty and fraternity, said Mr Aboobaker at the press conference. The SDPI is known as the political outfit of the Popular Front of India and was officially formed on June 21 in New Delhi.
The Kerala state unit of the SDPI will hold solidarity meetings in 100 legislative assemblies in the state on the occasion of the national convention on October 18, informed state president Adv KP Muhammed Shareef. He was addressing a press conference in Kannur in northern Kerala yesterday. Prior to the solidarity meetings, campaign rallies will be held in 500 centres all over the state on October 11. Rallies will be centred on village panchayats. The state leadership camp of the party will be held at Aluva in Ernakulam on October 2 and 3.
The SDPI has 2000 branches and 121 area committees in Kerala, said Mr Shareef. It also has 50,000 cadres as members. He added that the party would discuss the scope of contesting in the by-elections to Kannur, Ernakulam and Alappuzha legislative assemblies.
Mr Shareef said that political parties do not protect the interests of the common people. There is no left front or right front, there is only the front that protects the interests of the upper strata, he added. State secretary K Manoj Kumar said that the party would interfere actively in social issues after the policy announcement on October 18. Kannur district vice-president CK Ummer Master, secretary MP Muhammed and Kannur area president A Faisal were also present at the press conference.
